DALEKS and cybermen are set to invade Birmingham later this month when a major Doctor Who convention rolls into town.

Hundreds of fans of the TV timelord will meet a host of Dr Who actors, monsters and writers at the Bad Wolf convention at the city centre Holiday Inn on July 21 and 22.

Hollywood star Eric Roberts, who appeared as the Doctor's arch enemy the Master, is guest of honour flying in from the USA. The actor and brother of Julia Roberts, he is also exciting cult film and TV fans in hit series Heroes and the next Batman movie.

Also appearing are a trio of Tom Baker's assistants from the late 70s - Louise Jameson, better known as Leela, and Mary Tamm and Lala Ward who both played Romana.

Blakes 7 star Gareth Thomas and star of Doctor Who spin-off series Torchwood Gareth David Lloyd will also be there.

The convention comes to Birmingham for the first time, after a lukewarm event in Stoke-on-Trent last year.

David Hambly, of organiser and memorabilia dealers 10th Planet, said: "We know that Birmingham is the home of major conventions and are pleased with the help we have had from Holiday Inn.

"It is the ideal location for people from all over the country. We have already booked it again for next year."

He said that as well as the celebrity guests there will be costumed monsters, including the evil Daleks and Cybermen roaming around, plus quizzes, games and shows for all the family. Events run from 9.30am until late.

Tickets are still available, with adult weekend passes priced £70, with single day and concessions available. Accompanied children under 11 go free.
