Five hurt in city car smash

FIVE people were left injured after a serious smash on a Birmingham road involving four cars.

The driver of one of the cars, a man in his early 20s who has not been named, suffered serious leg and pelvic injuries in the accident in Bromford Road, near the Hunters Moon pub in Hodge Hill.

He was trapped in wreckage for more than 45 minutes before being released by firefighters from Ward End.

He was taken by air ambulance to Heartlands Hospital with severe, but non-life threatening injuries.

Three other men involved in the crash were treated at the scene by paramedics for shock and minor injuries and did not require any hospital treatment.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service added: "A woman driver in her 40s was also treated for a minor injury and conveyed by land ambulance to Heartlands Hospital."
