The forgotten flood victims

Fellow Tame Road resident Judith Willock added: "We could not get sand bags anywhere on the day of the floods - no one would help us."

Pensioner Arthur Thorpe added: "My wife is partially disabled and we sleep downstairs I do not know what would have happened if I had not have carried her upstairs.

"We just cannot believe we have been forgotten in this day and age. Our biggest fear is that the drains are so bad it could happen again."

£90,000 to help with big clean-up

THE Government is to give Birmingham £90,000 to help the local communities who were devasted by last month's floods.

Local Government Minister John Healey, co-ordinating the official response to the floods, confirmed the deal to Birmingham MP Khalid Mahmood.

The Perry Barr MP has been lobbying Government ministers on behalf of the hundreds of Witton residents who have still not recovered from the deluge on June 15.

The MP said: "The Local Government Minister John Healey has just told me that an emergency flood payment of £90,000 will be given to Birmingham.

"This is fantastic news for the families in my constituency who have been hit hard by the recent floods and I am the Government have recognised what they are going through."

The cash will be paid to Birmingham City Council and follows payments to Yorkshire, Hull and other areas

The MP added: "Nothing has been done to help these people in weeks despite their plight and hopefully Birmingham City Council will work quickly to distribute the money."
