A WALKING enthusiast from Dudley has been killed while trekking in the Austrian Alps.

Patrick Oakley, aged 57, of Kingsley Road. Kingswinford, was found dead on June 25 after failing to return to a mountain lodge where he had been staying.

Mr Oakley, who was single and worked as a hospital porter, had multiple injuries consistent with a fall, and was identified by his brother Paul.

Black Country Coroner Robin Balmain, opening an inquest on Mr Oakley at Dudley yesterday, said Dachstein, in eastern Austria, was a ski-ing destination in winter and a popular base for walkers in the summer. The inquest was adjourned.
