Lucy's top Hollywood role

Lucy Davis is now a rising Hollywood star - just don't ask her to do an American accent!

JASPER Carrott's daughter Lucy Davis is gradually making it big in the States, even though she misses home... and Coronation Street.

The Solihull-born actress, best known for playing receptionist Dawn in The Office, admitted: "I can't do an American accent to save my life".

But that hasn't stopped her landing a plum role on TV in Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip. She will star alongside Friends star Matthew Perry in the new comedy which airs on British screens this week.

Speaking from her new home in Los Angeles, the 34-year-old said: "I've had so many accent lessons and I'm getting better, but I just sound a bit less like Mary Poppins.

"One time, when I was first here about three years ago, I went up for a part with an American accent.

"I did the scene with my best American accent and they said, 'That's great, can you do it again in an American accent?' And I went, 'Yeah, of course'. It was rubbish. "

While she may not be speaking with a West Coast twang, Lucy has settled into the American way of life.

After leaving England in the wake of The Office's success, she auditioned for a while before striking gold in movies like the Garfield sequel and The TV Set, alongside David Duchovny.

At the end of last year, Lucy married her British actor fiance, Owain Yeoman, in a lavish ceremony at St Paul's Cathedral. The couple have also bought a house in an arty neighbourhood of town.

But she added: "I'd love my family to be here. As well as Coronation Street and Marks & Spencer!"
