Teenager held over shooting

A TEENAGER has been arrested in connection with an attack in which a terrified victim ran for his life as a gunman opened fire.

The 24-year-old victim suffered gunshot wounds to his hand and arm as he fled the gunman in Middlemore Road, Smethwick, near West Bromwich Albion's Hawthorns stadium eight weeks ago.

Det Insp Paul Homer. of Sandwell South CID at Smethwick, said that a 19-year-old man from Handsworth had been arrested and charged with attempted murder and possession of a firearm.

He said that the man was due to make his first appearance before Birmingham magistrates today in connection with the incident, which took place on May 24.

Mr Homer said that the youth was arrested early on Sunday in Birmingham city centre on unrelated matters.

Mr Homer said at the time that the victim was lucky to be alive after at least five shots were fired at him.

Violence flared when there was an argument between the victim and three men inside a garage.
