Boy, 13, to stand trial for rape

A SOLIHULL schoolboy is to stand trial over an allegation that he raped a teenage girl earlier this year.

The 13-year-old boy pleaded not guilty to raping the 15-year-old in April, when he appeared at Warwick Crown Court. The case was adjourned for trial, and he was granted unconditional bail.

Judge Christopher Hodson sat without his wig, and the barristers took off their wigs and gowns for the brief hearing on Tuesday.

The boy, who cannot be named, sat in front of the dock, and his father was allowed to sit next to him.

The trial is expected to last up to four days, during which the girl and a friend in whom she is said to have confided will give their evidence through recordings.

They will then be questioned via a television link to save them having to appear in the courtroom.
