Carson Yeung

He said he wanted boost Chinese-British links by launching Birmingham-themed restaurants in the two regions. And Birmingham's foremost home-grown chef welcomed the move and offered some ideas for dishes which Yeung might offer.

Glynn Purnell, who won a Michelin star for Jessica's restaurant in Edgbaston, specialises in Birmingham-influenced dishes at his new venture, Purnells, in Cornwall Street.

Mr Purnell, an avid Blues fan, added: "If Carson Yeung really wants to open Birmingham-themed restaurants in Hong Kong and China, I'm the only one he needs to speak to.

"Everyone else in the city proclaims they're cooking French food."
