Passengers evacuated after bus blaze

PASSENGERS were evacuated when their bus caught fire in Birmingham city centre.

The No.21 Travel West Midlands service to Bartley Green was cleared when a fire broke out in the engine compartment at Colmore Row at around 5.45pm on Saturday.

Firefighters were sent to the scene and the area was sealed off for around an hour. Nobody was hurt.

Travel West Midlands spokesman Phil Bateman said the company had launched a probe to find out what happened.

"We believe the fire was confined to the engine compartment," he said. "The driver evacuated all the passengers."
