Motorist tries to abduct girl

A MOTORIST tried to abduct a young girl as she walked home from school, it was revealed today.

Police today issued an alert following the attempted abduction in the Midlands.

The incident happened at about 3.45pm on Wednesday, July 18, but details were only released this afternoon by police.

A spokesman said the 11-year-old girl was walking along Portsdown Road in Halesowen when she was approached by a man driving a black Peugeot.

He pulled up behind the girl and approached her after getting out of the vehicle.

He asked where she was going and told her to get in the car. The man then tried to grab the girl but she walked off and he got back behind the wheel and drove off, leaving the girl shaken but unhurt.

Police said the man was white, in his mid-40s, and 5ft 6ins to 5ft 10ins.

He was thin, with a pale complexion and clean shaven.

The man was wearing black trousers, a blue fleece and a hooded top with tears in the elbows.

The rear window of the car had a gold yellow fish shape in the nearside bottom corner.

Police appealed for anyone with information or anyone who was in the area at the time to call 0845 1135000.
