Man jailed for raping schoolgirl

A MAN has been put behind bars for seven years for raping a 13-year-old schoolgirl in Wolverhampton.

Judge Michael Dudley told Stuart Paxon, who had been drinking and smoking cannabis, the girl had tried to push him away.

"You took advantage of her and, while the effects of this attack are difficult to calculate, they are bound to be serious," he added.

Paxon, of Mount Pleasant, Bilston, has denied raping the girl but was found guilty by a jury at the end of his trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court.

Sarah Buckingham, defending, said Paxon had acted totally out of character and it was the alcohol he had consumed that was behind the offence.

"He is certainly capable of rehabilitation with the right assistance," she told the court. "He accepts he was recklesss before his behaviour became sinister."

The judge further ruled 22-year-old Paxon, who showed no reaction as he was jailed, should register as a sex offender for life.
