Man jailed for punching new mum

A YOUNG dad who beat up his partner just weeks after she had given birth to their child by Caesarean section was today starting a four-month jail sentence.

Craig Bracey, aged 23, punched and kicked Michelle Drummond after she left him with the children to 'teach him a lesson', said Mr Julian Elcock, prosecuting.

He told Wolverhampton Crown Court the couple, who had been together for a year, had a "volatile" relationship.

Bracey, of Haydon Road, Tipton, admitted common assault and he was told by Recorder Nigel Baker QC it was "serious violence" on a woman.

Mr Jas Mann, defending, said the couple had a difficult relationship and he lost his temper when she went out and did not return until the following day.

"He accepts he behaved badly," said Mr Mann. "He bullied her and he is extremely ashamed. She has forgiven him for what he did and she is looking for things to continue."
