A MAN was today recovering in hospital from stab wounds after a daylight street attack.

The man was stabbed in the stomach in the incident in Moseley yesterday evening.

A man was later arrested in connection with the incident.

West Midlands Police said officers were called to Alcester Road, shortly before 7.45pm, to "reports of a disorder".

The victim, aged 45, was found lying in the street with serious stab wounds, near to the Coral Bookmakers betting shop. He was taken by ambulance to Selly Oak Hospital, where medics had been alerted to his arrival. He underwent surgery to treat the wounds.

Police today said his injuries were serious but "not life-threatening".

Officers were today hoping to visit him in hospital to speak with him to find out what happened.

The area was cordoned off by police as scenes of crime officers carried out a detailed search for clues and potential witnesses interviewed.

Meanwhile, detectives at Belgrave Road police station were today questioning a 40-year-old man in connection with the incident.

A police spokesman said: "Officers were called shortly after 7.45pm following reports of a disorder. A man was taken to hospital with stab wounds. His injuries are serious but not life-threatening.

"A man was arrested. He is currently in custody helping police with their inquiries."
