Sun shines on Weoley Castle carnival

GOOD weather, good food and good fun guaranteed a successful Weoley Castle Carnival.

Around 5,000 people turned out to enjoy the day's entertainment which included medieval sword fighting re-enactments, folk displays and dancing.

There were also morris dancers, Irish dancers, majorettes and charity stalls taking part in the Weoley Castle event.

Organiser Mark Jastrzebski, pictured, said: "It's been absolutely fantastic. People have turned out in droves.

"It's been a real community effort aimed at making people take notice of Weoley Castle. We're not in the city centre so we feel it's important to have events like today to make people here feel included."

He added: "We wouldn't be able to do it without all the community support and the help from our stewards and organisers and help from Birmingham City Council. They all help to make it possible."
