Victim's anger as Hughes is released

Lee Hughes at home following his release from prison.

A MAN left crippled after a car crash caused by footballer Lee Hughes said he was "sick to the stomach" after the player was freed.

Albert Frisby, aged 62, still needs a stick to walk almost four years after the crash which left his pal Doug Graham dead.

Dad-of-four Mr Graham was killed when 31-year-old Hughes crashed his Mercedes car in to their vehicle near Meriden, Coventry, in 2003.

Hughes was yesterday released from Featherstone prison, near Wolverhampton, after serving half his six-year sentence for causing death by dangerous driving.

The ex-Albion player headed home to Smethwick yesterday, where it is understood he joined up with his wife Anna and daughter Mia, aged six.

He will join League One side Oldham Athletic next week.

Mr Frisby said: "I feel sick to the stomach to learn Hughes has been released and will be playing professional football soon.

"His terrible actions devastated my life. He should have served his full sentence."

Hughes did not comment.
