Rape bid suspect 'assumed tennis star ID'

A MAN accused of trying to rape an escort girl after posing as a porn film director had sex with another prostitute while pretending he was a famous tennis player, Birmingham Crown Court was told.

Kevin Davis told the woman he was Kevin Curran, a former South African star, and that he wanted to get her out of the world of prostitution and buy her a house, it was claimed.

But he then left without paying for her services and stole jewellery from her, the woman alleged.

Davis, 48, formerly of Hagley Road, Edgbaston, has denied charges of attempted rape, assault by penetration and sexual assault.

It is alleged in February this year Davis created an elaborate fantasy conning a 29-year-old woman who worked for an escort agency into believing he worked in the pornographic film industry and that she could make lots of money starring in one of his movies.

But after going to her flat, said Mark Heywood, prosecuting, he carried out a violent sexual assault although the victim managed to fight back.

Another woman, who worked for an escort agency and who cannot be identified, said just over a year previously she was given the details by her agency of a man calling himself Kevin Curran.

"They said he was a famous tennis player who came into the country quite often and was looking for somebody to see on a frequent basis, but obviously being discreet," she said.

She said she invited him to her flat, which she did not normally do, because he might be worried about being seen going into hotels.

The woman said the man turned up wearing trainers, a pair of shorts, a T shirt and carrying a sports bag with a tennis racket.

"This led me to believe even further that he was who he said he was. He said he had just finished coaching some kids," she said. The woman claimed he told her that if she watched Sky Sports she would see him playing.

He had also told her, she said, that he wanted to "save her" from the industry and could pay £1,000 a month in to her bank account.

They had had sex, she said, but the following morning after telling her he was going to the bank to pay her for her services he never returned.
