Man dies under Metro

MIDLAND Metro services were disrupted today after a man was run over by a tram in West Bromwich.

Paramedics were battling to save the victim, who was believed to have either jumped or run onto the line.

Crews aided by firefighters were fighting to release the mnan - said to be in his 50s - from beneath the vehicle.

An air ambulance helicopter was also sent to the scene.

The incident happened on the Metro line beneath the bridge near the Lodge Road stop just after noon.

Police sealed off Lodge Road to traffic as the emergency teams got to work.

A man who was working in Lodge Road at the time said that moments before the alarm was raised he had heard a man shouting suicide threats.

People had told him that a man had run underneath the bridge and onto the track, he said.

"About 15 to 20 minutes earlier a man came walking across the road. I heard him shouting he was going to kill himself," he said.
