Fears of revenge attack following murder of biker

Gerry Tobin

THE detective leading the investigation into the shooting of a Hell's Angel has warned that there may be revenge attacks.

Det Supt Ken Lawrence said he fears rogue elements in the Hell's Angels may carry out further attacks to avenge Gerry Tobin's death.

The 35-year-old was gunned down on August 12 on the M40 as he rode home from the Bulldog Bash bikers' festival at Long Marston near Stratford.

Police were granted more time by magistrates yesterday to question four men arrested in connection with the murder.

Warwickshire Police made three of the arrests following early morning raids at addresses in Nuneaton and Coventry on Wednesday, and detained the fourth man on Wednesday night after searches in the Alderman's Green area of Coventry.

Police seized vehicles including a turquoise Rover, a green Rover car and a Mitsubishi four wheel drive car.

They also found a gun, knives and an axe at the addresses.

It is believed that further raids may be carried out in connection with murder.

Police believe Mr Tobin, a Canadian who worked as a mechanic at a Harley Davidson garage in south London, may have been targeted by a member of a rival gang.

Officers believe the shots were fired at Mr Tobin, of Mottingham, south east London, from a dark green Rover 620 car which was seen passing Mr Tobin around the time of the incident.

He was killed with a single shot to the back of the head fired from a handgun.

A second shot fired at the biker struck his motorcycle.
