KEEP fit fanatics from Birmingham and the Black Country took to the streets to help combat heart disease.

The Fitness First club in Hagley Road, Bearwood, kick started a four-mile run with help from the Walsall Rugby Club and raised £890 for charity in the process.

They were joined by members and staff at health clubs in Cannock, Mere Green, Solihull, Stirchley, Walsall Wood, Wednesbury and Wolverhampton, all raising money for the British Heart Foundation.

Many wore fancy dress for the run, officially started by Walsall Rugby Club players Andy Turner and Richard Moss.

Lyndsey Wyse, health and fitness manager at the Hagley Road club, said: "We want to do this run for our members who have suffered problems with their health.

"The people fronting the run have had heart problems or sporting injuries and we have helped them to regain their health and fitness."
