Have a say on council funds

TAXPAYERS in Tamworth are being asked to say how they think their money should be spent.

The town's council is inviting residents to take a more hands on approach and get involved with helping the authority prepare its budget for the next year.

Volunteers can either join focus groups or answer a short questionnaire about future spending plans which can be completed on the council's website.

The budget consultation project ties in with the Tamworth Listens initiative which gives people the chance to tell the council what they think is important to help shape future priorities for action and ultimately the budget.

Coun Robert Pritchard, portfolio holder for Corporate Governance and Service Improvement, said: "It is vitally important local people take part in this scheme.

"This is so we can set the right budgets for the right services, such as litter picking, heritage, sports or recreation.

"This is a real opportunity to influence the decisions councillors will make when setting a budget that affects Tamworth's future."

Volunteers for two focus groups will be recruited and invited to attend sessions next month to discuss where the council should allocate its resources next year.

Around 30 residents will be needed and anyone who would like to be considered to take part in the discussions, or for more information, should telephone 01827 709219 and leave their contact details.
