Bomb alert rail station evacuated

A BOMB scare saw Birmingham International Railway Station evacuated for more than two hours and caused havoc to trains.

Police evacuated the station after a tip off at 12.30pm yesterday and stopped all trains running on lines through the station.

A West Midlands Police spokesman, said: "Police were called just after 12:30pm yesterday following reports of a suspect package being spotted on a walkway between the station and the NEC. "As a precautionary measure evacuation procedures were carried out and cordons put in place. Train services were temporarily affected. Local police worked with colleagues in British Transport Police and the bomb disposal unit who were called to the scene to examine the package.

"Following its examination, the bomb disposal unit declared the package safe at about 3pm at which time the cordons were lifted and the alert was declared over."
