Trot on down to the yard

LEGENDARY racing horse owner Jim Lewis is set to be the star of the show when a Worcestershire racing yard invites enthusiasts to take a look around the stables.

Mr Lewis, who owns three-time Gold Cup winner, Best Mate, will be drawing the raffle at the Hammond's yard, in Lower Broadheath, at it's open day later this month.

With about 20 thoroughbreds on parade, crowds will be treated to a close up look at the ins and outs of a successful racing yard.

Mike Hammond, a former jockey who now trains horses at the club, said: "This will be a great day out for anyone who is interested in horses or who would like to know more about the world of racing.

"This is a chance for people who don't normally get to see behind the scenes to come along and soak up the wonderful atmosphere of a working yard."

The yard includes 22 boxes, a five-horse walker, 35 acres of grazing, a lunge ring and an all-weather gallop. A licensed bar and pig roast are also planned for the charity open day which starts at 2pm on September 16.

Proceeds to St Richard's Hospice in Worcester.
