Armed robbers get five years for hotel raid

TWO men who robbed another of £140 at a Sandwell hotel while armed with an imitation firearm and a knife were each jailed for five years by a court.

Dwight Edwards and Dwayne Murray made their getaway after the crime but were quickly arrested when police officers called to the scene boxed in their car, Wolverhampton Crown Court heard. Edwards, 22, of Albert Road and Murray, 21, of Willow Drive, both Handsworth, admitted robbery and possessing the imitation firearm - a gun that fired little plastic balls.

Judge Michael Challinor told them it was a serious offence that had put their victim in great fear and only a substantial prison sentence was appropriate.

Julian Elcock, prosecuting, said the two men pounced in the early hours at the Park Inn Hotel, in West Bromwich.
