Mugging is murder

A MURDER inquiry has now been launched into the death of a 79-year-old mugging victim.

West Midlands Police said a post-mortem examination had established that Margaret Whiting, from Coventry, suffered injuries "indicative of a forceful attack".

The widow, who had collected her pension shortly before the attack, died in hospital late on Tuesday after suffering a broken hip when her bag was snatched in a subway in Coventry city centre on Monday afternoon.

A police spokesman said: "A post mortem has taken place which has established a causal link between the robbery and the death.

"Mrs Whiting sustained injuries to her hip, arm, shoulder and head which were indicative of a forceful attack."

Anyone with information is urged to contact Chace Avenue police station on 0845 1135000.
