Stripes hit by illness

FANS who snapped up tickets to see The White Stripes at Birmingham's NEC were today being told the gig has been cancelled because the band's drummer is suffering from "acute anxiety".

The band had cancelled all dates on its 2007 tour in the US but has now done the same in the UK, including the gig at the NEC on Sunday October 28.

A spokeswoman for the band said: "Drummer Meg White is suffering from acute anxiety, and as such had cancelled scheduled US tour dates. The band have now declared that they will not play any more dates in 2007."

All tickets purchased from the NEC should be returned to Customer Services, The White Stripes, The NEC Box Office, PO Box 3348, Birmingham, B40 1NS, for a refund.
