Boys badly burned in aerosol can explosion

TWO boys were badly burned last night after aerosol cans exploded in a park in Birmingham.

The fire service thinks the pair, aged 12 and 13, may have been playing with a rubbish fire at around 6pm on Dawberry Field, in Brandwood Park Road, Kings Heath.

One boy suffered 18 per cent burns to his arms and lower legs and the other boy suffered 10 per cent burns to his lower legs.

Crews from Billesley and Kings Norton were called to the fire and both children were taken to hospital.

Watch commander Andy Dennis, from Billesley fire station, said: "The fire is still being investigated, but it appears that the children were playing with fire and they were badly injured.

"The results of this are bad enough, but it could have been far worse. It shows the consequences of playing with fire."
