Church treasurer dies in tower fall

THE treasurer of a Midland church has died after falling from its tower.

Police and paramedics were called to St Giles' Church in Whittington, near Lichfield, after workmen discovered the body of Rebecca Wigley.

The 57-year-old had been treasurer for the church for more than 15 years and the vicar of Whittington said the community was in a state of shock.

The Rev John Martin said: "Becky was a much-loved member of our community and served as church treasurer very conscientiously and diligently for many years.

"She will be greatly missed and my thoughts and prayers are with her family at this distressing time."

Mrs Wigley, who lived in Whittington, was married with two grown-up children.

Staffordshire Police are not treating the death last Thursday as suspicious and are preparing a report for the coroner.
