Fire alert as holiday plane diverted

SIX fire crews raced to Birmingham International Airport after a burning smell forced a plane to divert from its flight between Manchester and Guernsey.

Crews from Sheldon, Solihull, Hay Mills and Bickenhill, joined the airport's own fire crew on the runway of the airport at around 6.30pm yesterday.

All passengers from the Guernsey Airlines flight were disembarked to a coach, and no injuries were reported.

West Midlands Fire Service said: "The crew could smell burning and smoke."
