Teacher jailed for porn DVDs

A MATHS teacher caught selling "revolting'' pornographic DVDs on a street in Birmingham has been jailed for 15 months.

Judge Richard Griffith-Jones told Qiang Chen: "The material that you were selling should fill ordinary people with revulsion.

''They demonstrate graphic and explicit sexual activity between people and animals. The pictures degrade the people and the poor animals.''

He said that Chen had been making a small profit and was part of a fairly sophisticated distribution chain.

Chen, 34, of Doris Road, Sparkhill, had previously admitted 10 charges of publishing an obscene article and five of possessing DVDs without a classification certificate.

Birmingham Crown Court was told Chen had previously been given a suspended sentence for doing the same thing.

Alisa Davis, prosecuting, said in May this year a member of the public had flagged down a passing police car after Chen had tried to sell one of the DVDs to him in the Coventry Road.

Chen ran off but was found hiding in a closet in a flat above a shop.

Miss Davies said a number of DVDs were recovered including 10 involving bestiality.

She said in a scene from one of them you could see a child's climbing frame and it had been filmed near to a child's playground.

When questioned Chen said he had about 200 DVDs and that he received them from a friend in London.

He said he had previously sold around 50 for £2 sending half the profit back to the source.

Gerry Bermingham, defending, said Chen was originally from China where he had worked as a maths teacher but had been ostracised because he and his wife had had more than one child.

He said he had paid traffickers to come to the UK and that he had stupidly decided to take a risk to earn some money.
