Children aim for a tin cup!

HUNDREDS of children chipped, putted and swung into action as golf experts gave them a unique introduction to the sport at The Belfry.

Nearly 1,000 children from schools across the West Midlands were given expert tuition in the basics of golf as senior stars competed in the British Masters at the course near Sutton Coldfield.

Around 300 pupils from Reynold's Cross Special School, in Solihull, used foam balls and plastic clubs to knock down targets in a eight metre zone.

In a series of fun games, youngsters teed off into nets and aimed at boxes to test their accuracy.

Held in a tented village near the 550-acre championship course, juniors were given the skills to start them on their way to becoming the next Tiger Woods or Colin Montgomerie.

Richard Barker, from England Golf, said: "It has been brilliant so far with lots of smiles on faces and children getting a real chance to have a go at a sport which they may not normally have access to."
