Chaos after lorry hits building

MOTORISTS were dogged by delays today after police closed a lane of a busy Birmingham road after a lorry crashed into a city centre building.

Police, paramedics and firefighters were called to the scene of the crash in Church Street, at its junction with Great Charles Queensway, at around 8.30am today.

Officers cordoned off the building as safety experts moved in to secure the premises, used as a business.

A West Midlands Police spokeswoman added: "Luckily nobody was hurt in the incident, but it did cause some damage to a couple of windows on the front of the premises. Health and safety experts were called in to make sure everything was safe but the building did not need to be evacuated and initial investigations showed their had been no major structural damage."
