Pensioner, 78, breaks leg as mugger snatches bag

A PENSIONER is recovering in hospital today after suffering a broken leg during a vicious mugging.

A 78-year-old woman suffered a fractured leg after being thrown to the floor during what police have described as a "despicable" attack.

The incident happened in Masefield Drive, Tamworth, at around 8.25am on Friday.

Police said the victim was walking along the road when a man approached her from behind and grabbed her handbag. But the woman refused to let go and fell over during a struggle.

The thug grabbed the bag and ran away. But two witnesses immediately gave chase, resulting in the him dropping the handbag and fleeing empty handed. The woman was taken to hospital and is currently in a stable condition.
