TV singer killed in home fall

Stuart Sangra-Knight

A WELL-known Birmingham singer who had appeared on TV has died after falling down a flight of stairs.

Stuart Sangra-Knight, aged 31, of Sheddington Road, Erdington, suffered serious head injuries in the accident at his home.

Mr Sangra-Knight, who had made an appearance on the ITV show Stars In Their Eyes, died in hospital a short time later.

Today his devastated wife, Aine Sangra-Knight, 34, paid tribute to the singer-songwriter, who was well known on the Midlands pub circuit under the stage name Stuart Knight.

Aine, who had been married to Stuart for almost three years, described him as a "lively, born entertainer" who dreamed of making it big as a singer.

"He was such an entertainer. When he performed he interacted with the crowd and was such a character," she said.

"He was always laughing and entertaining people even when he wasn't on stage.

"He wanted to make singing into a career. He did rock and roll, Latin, Elvis Ð he was an all-round entertainer. It was extremely important to him. He dreamed of being a star."

The tragedy happened at their home a fortnight ago.

Stuart, who went to St Alban's School, in Highgate, appeared on the ITV show Stars In Their Eyes as Latin singer Ricky Martin in 2004.

Legal secretary Aine said the couple were planning on having a family and Stuart, who changed his name from Stuart Brown when they married, was looking forward to becoming a dad.

She said the pair had married in the Bahamas in December 2004 and had booked to return to the same resort in January to celebrate their third wedding anniversary.

A spokesman for Birmingham Coroner's Court said an inquest recorded a verdict of accidental death.

Mr Sangra-Knight's funeral service and cremation was being held in Sutton Coldfield today.

"We were planning a family. Going back to the Bahamas was going to be a big thing for us because it was our anniversary."
