Beach brings in the crowds

Jack Beard is buried in sand by Max Knnerley in Chamberlain Square beach.

A WHOPPING 128,000 Brummies were attracted to the council's city centre beach despite having one of the wettest summers on record.

City leisure, sport and culture boss Coun Ray Hassall (Lib Dem, Perry Barr) hailed the Chamberlain Square sand-pit as a huge success.

He said: "Despite the weird weather we've been having the beach was visited by 128,000 people. We lost many days in May, June and July but when the sun was out the people came and enjoyed themselves."
