Doolan's new heart op

Ed Doolan

BBC WM presenter Ed Doolan will go back under the surgeon's knife next week - to have his second heart pacemaker fitted in just 11 weeks.

Ed was rushed into Edgbaston's Priory Hospital for a lifesaving op on the day of his 20th wedding anniversary, August 8.

But, although the wound has just healed, Ed's doctors have told him they can now fit a better model.

The 66-year-old Aussie, who had a triple bypass operation in December 1987, will go back to the Priory after coming off air next Tuesday.

His new pacemaker will be fitted that night during another one-to-two hour operation when he will again remain awake. Ed plans to return to work on November 5.
