Headlock to forge friendship

Zou Bo from Beijing Judo Club gets a head-lock from Owen Martin-Beades, the youngest member of Erdington Judo Club.

CHINA'S Beijing judo squad has visited Birmingham as part of an exchange with an Erdington club.

Eight members of the team visited Cadbury World, in Bournville, as part of their trip to the city which has been organised by the Hardy Spicers Judo Club, in Pype Hayes Road.

Kerry Martin-Bodes, from the club, said: "It's really nice to have them here. They've come a long way just to see how judo is taught here.

"It's a real honour for us to host them because they could have chosen out of a lot of clubs in the UK.

"We are going to try and go out to China next year as a return gesture. We're developing a really strong link with the club and it will be very interesting for us to see how they do things."

Squad members will also be giving demonstrations to other Birmingham judo clubs.
