Bands strike a chord with shoppers

A drummer entertains the crowds in St Martin's in the Bullring as part of Gigbeth.

SHOPPERS in Birmingham were treated to an array of musical talent over the weekend during the Gigbeth festival.

St Martin's Square in the Bullring became the stage for three Midland bands - Drumalicious, Hamana and Friendly Fire - on Saturday.

The event was part of the Gigbeth festival, which last year gave early exposure to Birmingham's biggest new band The Twang.

The festival has been billed as the UK's most diverse music festival and plays host to a range of music genres.

Saturday's concert at the Bullring saw Drumalicious playing tribal dance music, while Hamana put on a dance and drumming show, with Friendly Fire demonstrating their unique reggae style.

A spokeswoman for the Bullring said: "We were delighted to be involved with an event such as Gigbeth as it show-cases the region's up and coming talent and provides top musical entertainment for Birmingham."
