Car park crash kills pensioner in Solihull

A PENSIONER was killed in a collision with a car outside a Solihull cinema, ambulance chiefs said today.

The 67-year-old from Birmingham was in the car park at Touchwood shopping precinct, near the Cinecentre, with her husband.

The driver of a Vauxhall Vectra was questioned about the accident by West Midlands Police, but was not arrested.

Paramedics were called to the car park off Homer Road, Solihull, at 10.45 last night. A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said today: "The ambulance staff found the woman pedestrian with critical injuries.

"Unfortunately there was nothing that could be done to save her and she was confirmed dead at the scene.

"Her husband, who was estimated to be in his 60s and was also a pedestrian, was shocked but unhurt."

An ambulance, rapid response car and an incident support officer were sent to the scene, he added.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police today urged witnesses to get in touch.

She said the driver of the Vauxhall had been questioned by police but had not been arrested.

"Officers are investigating the collision and are appealing for any witnesses to contact the road policing unit at Solihull on 0845 113 5000."
