Film made at Nostalgia comics in Birmingham

MOVIE glamour came to a cult comic store in Birmingham as it became the setting for a hotly-tipped new Brit flick.

Film-makers were desperate to shoot new romantic comedy, Faintheart, at the Nostalgia and Comics Shop, in Smallbrook Queensway, as the film is set in a similar type of store.

The movie, starring Jessica Hynes, from TV series Spaced, Auf Wiedersehen Pet's Tim Healy, ex-EastEnders hunk Paul Nicholls and Ewen Bremner from Trainspotting, follows a character who works in a comic shop and love in the world of battle re-enactments.

Dave Hopkins, Nostalgia's shop manager, said: "It is great that this store will be immortalised on the silver screen, especially as it's the shop's 30th anniversary this year.

"This is the first time I have been involved in a film and it is amazing how many people have been bustling around the shop as part of the crew.

Actor Ewen Bremner receives make-up during filming of Faintheart at Nostalgia comics in Birmingham.

"The actors have been friendly. I am chuffed to bits that they chose Nostalgia for the film and I'm just hoping we all get an invite to the premiere.

"I don't know the exact story, but I know it revolves around some Star Trek fans, so I just hope the character from the comic store isn't being played as a nerd and they don't take the mickey too much."

The movie is produced by Film4, Myspace and Vertigo Films is backed by the UK film council and Screen WM.
