Pupil dies trapped under bus in Wolverhampton

A SCHOOLBOY was killed today in collision with a bus in the Midlands.

The youngster, aged 12 or 13, died instantly when he became trapped under the vehicle on his way to school in Wolverhampton.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to Willenhall Road, Eastfield, just after 8.30am.

An ambulance, a rapid response vehicle and an ambulance officer were sent to the accident scene the Merry Boys pub.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "When we arrived the boy was trapped under the bus and it was clear he had suffered fatal injuries.

"There was nothing we could have done to save him, unfortunately.

"All the passengers from the bus were taken into the pub and looked after until a replacement bus could come and take them.

"We also checked over the bus driver, who was very shaken up but uninjured."

The spokesman added: "The boy was pronounced dead at the scene and the ambulance service conveyed his body to the mortuary."

Crews were on the scene for some time and some surrounding roads were closed while the incident was investigated.

A West Midlands Police said: "The boy who died was aged 12 or 13 and an investigation is underway into the circumstances.

"Parts of Willenhall Road, Stow Heath Lane and Deans Road, Wolverhampton, have been closed off.

"We are appealing for witnesses to contact Wednesfield police station on 0845 113 5000."
