Man stable after suffering injuries during disturbance

A MAN left fighting for his life after suffering serious head injuries in an alleged assault is now in a "stable" condition, police have said.

It is believed he was badly injured when a row broke out at a property at about 4am on Saturday.

Police were called to the disturbance and sealed off Manor-ford Avenue, West Bromwich, to conduct inquiries into the attack on the 21-year-old from Wednesbury.

Initially it was feared the man's injuries were life-threatening. But he has since started to make a recovery in hospital and was thought to be out of immediate danger.

On Saturday the property, a maisonette, was cordoned off and police officers stood guard over the weekend. A forensic examination of the address has also been made.

Door-to-door inquiries have also been made on the estate and the injured man continues to be treated at Sandwell General Hospital in West Bromwich.

A West Midlands Police spokeswoman said a man aged 26 from Wednesbury was initially held in custody and was questioned in connection with the attack.

The spokeswoman added: "The 26-year-old has now been released on police bail pending further inquiries."

Anyone with information should contact West Bromwich CID on 0845 133 5000.
