Girl hurt in road collision in Nechells, Birmingham

A TEENAGE girl was injured when she was hit by a car on a dual carriageway in Birmingham.

It happened on Nechells Parkway near St Matthew's Church when the 14-year-old girl was in collision with the car, smashing its windscreen and injuring her head and legs.

The girl, who was with her sister, is thought to live close to the scene of the accident. Her sister was not injured.

Paramedic Steve Harris, said: "The girl had suffered head and lower leg injuries but was conscious throughout.

"We immobilised her using a neck collar and spinal board before we took her on blue lights to Birmingham Children's Hospital.

"I went with the ambulance crew to provide additional treatment on route. It doesn't appear as though the girl's injuries are life-threatening."

He added: "Anyone who is in collision with a car is lucky to survive, but when it is on a dual carriageway that is particularly fortunate."

A motorcycle paramedic was at the scene within five minutes of the accident, which happened at about 4.30pm yesterday. The car driver did not require treatment.

The accident caused traffic chaos for drivers as the road was closed for two hours while the rescue was carried out. ..SUPL:
