Man impaled on metal railings after night out

FIREFIGHTERS had to cut a young man free after he became impaled on a metal fence in Birmingham.

Around ten firefighters from Northfield were called to the scene of the incident in Ormond Road, Frankley, at around 5am yesterday.

A spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service said: "I believe the man had been out for a few drinks with his mates.

"He was lucky in that the fence had not penetrated the whole way through his leg.

"The spike had pierced his right leg near the back of his knee.

"The fence was still pierced through his skin when he was put in the ambulance."

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said the 23-year-old man was taken to Selly Oak Hospital.
