Families light up appeal

GENEROUS wellwishers have helped bring in a staggering £13,200 for cancer patients through the Tree Of Thought appeal.

Families from West Bromwich lit up a tree in honour of loved ones they have lost or who are battling the disease.

All cash raised in the campaign by Macmillan Cancer Support will now boost the charity's services to cancer patients from helping them gain grants to giving them extra support through Macmillan nurses.

Cat Yates, of Macmillan, said: "On behalf of the charity, I would just like to say a massive thank you to everyone who supported our Tree of Thought campaign.

"We are thrilled to have raised this amount of money this year and so many of our supporters comment on how it means so much to them to know that one of the lights on the tree is in honour of a loved one.

"Without this generosity we would not be able to help local people living with cancer, and provide them with practical, medical, emotional and financial support."

Former Blues goalkeeper Dave Latchford, who is currently battling prostate cancer, sponsored several of the lights.
