Man jailed for murder of pregnant girlfriend

A MAN was today starting a life sentence for murdering his pregnant teenage girlfriend.

Alec Goode, 25, repeatedly stabbed 19-year-old Kristie Johnson with a kitchen knife after they argued at her flat in Rugeley, Staffordshire, last year.

Goode, of Coulthwaite Way, Rugeley, was arrested shortly after the crime, which took place in the early hours of Thursday March 29. He had confessed to his father.

He was convicted of murder following a trial at Stafford Crown Court yesterday, where he was given a life sentence with a minimum tariff of 15 years.

Ms Johnson, who was pregnant at the time of her death, had a three-year-old daughter, according to Staffordshire Police.

Detective Chief Inspector Dave Garrett, the senior investigating officer, said: “The level of violence used by Goode was brutal and shocking.

“It’s hard to imagine the terror Kristie must have experienced. Our thoughts are with her family at this distressing time.

“Hopefully today’s verdict will bring them some comfort.”
