Man hurt as car hits tree

A DRIVER suffered serious head injuries after his car hit a tree and over-turned on a Birmingham street.

The car was travelling along Scotland Lane, in Bartley Green, around 9.30pm yesterday when it hit a tree then toppled over. A member of the public had managed to free the trapped driver from his vehicle before crews from West Midlands Fire service arrived.

The injured driver was then taken to Selly Oak Hospital with a suspected skull fracture.

Ameta Bandhan, ambulance officer, said: "A member of the public had pulled the driver from the vehicle.

"The patient, a local man in his 20s, had suffered a serious head injury."
