Dudley pupils have their say

SCHOOL pupils are set to take part in a series of youth debates at Dudley Council's chamber next week.

More than 70 youngsters from 12 Dudley schools will talk about issues including respect for others, the true meaning of Christmas, war and intensive farming on Wednesday and Thursday.

Mayor of Dudley, Coun David Stanley, will chair some of the debates, which will start at 9am on both days.

It is hoped the debates will help the youngsters, aged nine to 12, to develop their speaking skills while learning more about issues that affect the way we live.

The primary schools taking part include Thorns, Bromley Hills, St James's, Alder Coppice, Hurst Hill and Caslon.

Secondary schools taking part are Pedmore TC, Hillcrest, Ellowes Hall, Wordsley High, Earls and Holly Hall.

Dudley Council's childrens services boss, Coun Liz Walker, said: "It's great to see young people occupying the council chamber to talk about issues which are important to them."
