Peace as TWM bus drivers accept three-tier pay deal

A FEARED strike by Travel West Midlands bus drivers is now off after a pay deal.

A second ballot of drivers organised by the Unite TGWU union has voted in favour of accepting a new, three-tier pay offer.

The drivers had earlier rejected the offer, averaging an extra £1 to £2 per hour, in a first ballot.

Details of the ballot and agreement were today being released to staff at Birmingham's largest bus company.

Phil Bateman, of Travel West Midlands spokesman, said: "Following negotiations between UNITE, the bus drivers' trade union, and Travel West Midlands a ballot has been held resulting in an agreement being signed. "The full details of the agreement will be made available to our employees over the next few days.

"We are of course very pleased that the negotiations have been successfully concluded."

The vote ends the prospect of industrial action on the buses while the city council is braced for a mass walkout tomorrow.
