Driver cut free after Washwood Heath smash

TWO drivers were taken to hospital after their cars collided on a busy Birmingham road.

They were driving in Alum Rock Road near its junction with Cotterills Lane in Washwood Heath at 3.15pm yesterday when the accident occurred.

One driver had to be cut free by firefighters, while the other driver was treated for neck pain by ambulance crews.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman, said: “On arrival, crews found two cars which had been involved in a collision.

“One person had already left their vehicle, but was complaining of neck pain. The patient was immobilised using a neck collar and spinal board.

“Another had to be cut free by firefighters, before being immobilised in the same manner.

“Both were taken to Heartlands Hospital in Birmingham for further assessment and treatment”.
