A MAN was taken to hospital today after being hit by a car, forcing police to cordon off a major road junction.

Police blocked the junction of Kingsbury Road and Gravelly Hill, in Erdington, following the collision shortly before 7.15am.

A force spokesman said officers were alerted by paramedics treating the pedestrian for head injuries at the scene of the incident in Kingsbury Road.

The road is popular with rush-hour commuters heading into Birmingham.

The spokesman said: "Police were called by the ambulance service to Kingsbury Road following reports of a road traffic collision between a car and a pedestrian. The male pedestrian had suffered head injuries and was taken to hospital."
